With the double whammy of an earthquake and a hurricane, last week was a nail-biter here in New York. And since I live quite close to one of Mayor Bloomberg’s evacuation zones, my husband and I went through all the usual hurricane prep with determination: bottled water, check; batteries, check; candles, check; more food than 2 people could possibly consume in a few days, check. Because isn’t being stuck inside during a storm kind of like being on vacation: you don’t have to play by normal dietary rules? At least this girl didn’t. Chips, beer, cheese, wine, cookies, I did it all. I may feel slightly guilty, but when the potential of 90-mile an hour winds are threatening to blow your windows in, all you want is a little comfort food…
But today, it was back to reality. I needed to clear out the gluttony of the weekend and have enough energy to get through my workday. I started the morning with this strawberry-banana smoothie that is not only great for overall health, skin, energy, a post-workout, breakfast, and an antioxidant boost, it’s also a great way to redeem yourself after 3 days of fun.
